Two
In the middle of the night
my heart got me up
like a loud knock on the door.
I answer, “No, let me sleep.”
A nudge from an invisible hand
pushes my back until
I stumble to the floor to meditate.
To my heart I say,
“Show me your divinity,
I’m sitting here, so wake me up!”
I hear nothing but the whir of the clock
then
a thunder howls inside me
light flashes behind my eyes
the breath answers in a whisper
“I am here”
and the gentlest rain
spills down my cheeks.
